Review of tech communities, two-weeks in.

After a whilst on BIM Subreddit, I realized what few communities there are for specialists in the constructed environment, mainly architects and BIM Managers. In tech, however, there are extraordinary Slack Channels and Discord Groups for simply about any coding language.

This week I have been placing up my GitHub page. The Women Who Code team has a membership registration page that requires a website and GitHub which made me curious to locate out how that works. (I will be working on my first Python+Dynamo+Revit assignment the subsequent week and it will be the first of my GitHub Portfolio.) Once the Women in Code profile was once set up, I come across some beneficial resources; they have daily events that consist of book club meetings that discuss programming and motivational books, talks on how to enhance your portfolio and resume, programming lessons, and best of all, regional physical meet-ups. In Africa, there’s only a Ghana Chapter, with a good number of events that align with my time zone. The community has opportunities to be a volunteer or speaker and they actively support women in their programming journey, regardless of their skill level. The Slack channel is lively on just about every topic, which makes the Autodesk discord group-The only community for Architects/BIM Managers I could find-seem dull in comparison.

The opportunities, in tech communities, for a junior Python programmer could be finding mentorship from a Senior Developer, volunteering to coordinate online events, attending events on different coding languages, joining a regional chapter in your area, or crewing up with fellow programmers to launch a local chapter.
